Professional Equipment
The quality of a digital transfer begins long before the recording reaches a computer.
At GigaPix Archival, we use carefully selected playback equipment designed for each tape format. Every tape is captured in real time using dedicated hardware that preserves as much of the original image and sound as possible.
We continually maintain and test our equipment to ensure dependable playback and the highest quality transfers.
VHS & S-VHS
Professional JVC S-VHS decks with advanced playback features deliver exceptional image stability and compatibility with aging VHS tapes.
These machines provide cleaner playback, improved color, and reduced video noise compared to typical consumer VCRs.
VHS-C
VHS-C tapes are played using dedicated adapters and professional VHS decks, providing the same high-quality playback while reducing unnecessary handling of your original tapes.
Video8 & Hi8
Sony Video8 and Hi8 playback equipment provides excellent compatibility with both analog Video8 and Hi8 recordings.
Whenever possible, transfers are captured directly from S-Video outputs for the best available image quality.
MiniDV & HDV
Digital MiniDV and HDV tapes are transferred over IEEE 1394 (FireWire), preserving the original digital data without analog conversion.
This produces a bit-for-bit digital copy of your recording with no additional generation loss.
Digital Capture
Our capture workflow is designed to preserve the original recording as accurately as possible.
High-quality interfaces and professional software ensure stable transfers while maintaining proper audio synchronization and image quality.
Every Tape Matters
Many tapes we receive are decades old and cannot be replaced.
That's why each tape is handled individually, monitored throughout the transfer process, and safely returned after digitization.
Our goal isn't simply to convert tapes.
It's to preserve memories.
