Our Digitization Process
Every tape is handled individually and transferred in real time using playback equipment matched to the format. We focus on careful handling, clean capture, and digital files that are easy to watch, share, and preserve.
Using the Right Capture Method:
Analog Formats
VHS • VHS-C • Video8 • Hi8
These formats are played back using dedicated equipment and captured in real time to create high-quality digital files while preserving the original picture and sound.
Native Digital Transfer
MiniDV • HDV
Unlike analog videotapes, MiniDV and HDV already contain digital video.
Rather than converting them through analog video outputs, we transfer the original digital data directly over IEEE 1394 (FireWire) to a dedicated capture workstation. This preserves the original digital quality recorded on the tape without an unnecessary analog conversion.
1. Request a Quote
Tell us what types of tapes you have and roughly how many. If you’re not sure, send a photo and we’ll help identify the formats.
2. Tape Review
Each tape is checked before capture so we can identify the format, condition, and best playback approach.
3. Professional Playback
Your tape is played using dedicated VCRs, camcorders, or decks selected for that format.
4. Real-Time Capture
Tapes are digitized in real time with attention to video stability, audio quality, and proper file creation.
5. Quality Check
We review the captured file to make sure the transfer completed properly and that both video and audio are present.
6. Digital Delivery
You receive high-quality MP4 files that play on computers, phones, tablets, smart TVs, and media servers.
7. Original tapes are safely returned upon request, or responsibly recycled with your permission.
If you choose not to have your originals returned, they will be securely held for 30 days after delivery of your digital files before being responsibly recycled.
